How does a National Park track and report on broad and complex goals such as:
Likewise how does a local government pull everything that’s happening in the region to achieve:
These are Outcomes that are impacted by huge numbers of departments and organisations, many of whom are essentially unaware of their impact on nature or climate.
These are some of the challenges that OnePlanet is helping our customers deliver, and while the reporting and communication functionality has always been part of the platform, we’ve enhanced this to make it more effective and easier.
Recap on the basics:
When tracking a single plan, OnePlanet already allows you to:
- Report against multiple frameworks, categorisation or structure (see Lenses).
- Structure the report by the above categories, or by the links between Actions and Outcomes. So if you are reporting on dark-sky, much of the impact of “Ensures developers deliver environmental benefits” will have an impact, once that link is created in the mindmap the reporting becomes automatic, (see your new explanation).
All this information can be seen as a report, a Mindmap or a Dashboard of progress and activity. To learn more about this functionality, please visit the “Plan reporting” section on the OnePlanet helpdesk.
Ecosystem reporting
This doesn’t address the challenge of reporting across multiple plans – which is where OnePlanet’s Report Centre comes in, here you simply:
- Choose the Shared Outcome you want to report on; Mitigate impacts on dark-skies or creating a Resilient Urban and Natural Environment.
This gives you all the information that is impacting on your shared outcome – which for any complex problem is quickly overwhelming, so the next step is to customise the report or dashboard:
- Select which internal departments or plans you need
- Select which external organisations you are interested in
- Filter by category, by date, by progress … whatever you need to see.
You then simply create your report or dashboard!

While this sounds simple visualizing data and information in this way is actually revolutionary because it both allows us to understand the interconnection between issues that have traditionally been treated completely separately.
