House of Commons Session

OnePlanet at the Houses of Parliament

OnePlanet and Rewired Earth were delighted to host an event at Portcullis House, part of our Houses of Parliament!

Last year, OnePlanet and a team of Young Leaders put together an ambitious project, systems mapping and collecting local government climate strategy from across the UK. We learned a lot gathering all this data (and creating the first joined-up database of its kind!) and we’re really excited to take this project further!

We were privileged to create an opportunity for Young Leaders who created the UK Government Climate Action Manifesto to share their recommendations, based on analysis of UK local government climate plans using OnePlanet technology. We were pleased to be joined by senior parliamentarians including Lord McNicol (Labour), Kirsty Blackman MP (SNP Shadow Spokesperson Cabinet Office), Baroness Bennett (Green) and Kerry McCarthy MP (Labour, Shadow Minister for Climate Change and Net Zero), and get a statement of support from Wera Hobhouse MP (Liberal Democrat, Spokesperson on Energy and Climate Change).

Seventy people from the OnePlanet and Rewired networks were able join us, representing all sectors – public, private and voluntary – to hear the Young Leaders, to discuss the idea for an Office for Joined-Up Government and be present at the launch the report, ‘Rising Tides’, by Caymanian Young Leaders on the future of the Cayman Islands, including migration to the UK.

As OnePlanet and Rewired Earth, we see a window of opportunity to get systems-thinking/joined-up-action really embedded using the OnePlanet platform and Rewired Earth app.  Watch this space!

In the meantime, click to learn about the Young Leaders Initiative and the intergeneration Unite for Climate sessions we ran with climate experts, politicians, and scientists at the end of last year!
